While having coffee with a friend of mine at Seattle’s best a few weeks ago and we got to talking about the one thing every one has in common- MISTAKES!! It was a warm cloudy morning in Seattle and we just wanted to leave home, we both decided caffeine and some sugary pastries were A great idea (that combination is yet to fail me)!

As painful as messing up is, it ought to be a learning experience! You are human…you are GOING to make mistakes. That is not to say that some things are unavoidable. There a many situations were we make mistakes that we could have avoided, on the same token, some mistakes are not clear from the beginning. Long and short is mistakes are inevitable, and the simple truth of the matter is it is because you don’t know everything.

The Bible doesn’t encourage us to sit around discussing the cause of our sins, or describing them to one another in detail. Confess and repent and move on! God does not have rearview mirrors, He never looks back at what you’ve done,

Here’s the thing though… once you make that mistake, be ready to own it! Denial is never a good colour and it prolongs any situation that could have been dealt with by simply acknowledging and moving on. You will hurt a few people along the way, make a messy business decision and even take a wrong route in life… pause and acknowledge and apologize if you need to and move the hell on! And yes, learn from that mistake.

One thing you should never ever do is allow ANYONE to make you believe that you are your mistake. Never allow not one person to make you believe that, because of your mistakes, you are now a failure… never allow any one being to make you think for one second that you are a bad person for making a mistake…

Simply ask them or TELL them to GENTLY SOD OFF!! this is while you dust yourself off, apologize and prepare to take over the world!

HOPEFUL

I wrote in my journal this morning on being hopeful and surpassing the negative things in life. My day started great and then without a warning everything took a turn for the worse. I want to thank God for his mercies but at the same time I would like to remind you to always be on the alert. Be mindful of the words you utter as words can have molding powers. For when all seems well, when you’ve decided to make a fresh start, anything can go wrong. Praise God always even in the storm.

This morning’s thoughts:

“I know this life. Understand certain things, well what I’m supposed to do, what I’m not. Hurt, pain, rejection I can smell that from a distance. It doesn’t even creep up on me anymore, just kind of slams me in the face. Those are the times I should go running. Fast! Most of the times though I don’t. Instead I stand there and inhale the pungent fumes that engulf me. It wraps itself around me and begs me to grow familiar with it and before I know it, its all I want.

Crazy how life is though, I always want and accept what I shoudn’t. And everyday I promise myself to learn a new dance. It’s quite simple you see. I figure if I can learn a new step each day then I can trick my emotions into doing what it desires and eventually, even if slowly, I can walk around that craze and become triumphant.

The sun is out this morning and everything seems hopeful. It’s a trick though, I can usual tell. And I will approach today carefully. Not because of the negativity bursting within me but because I want today to be different. I want to side step every negative vibe, close my ears to hurtful words, accept the hurt those I love pour on me. And then maybe, just maybe today will be better.

This dance is for me. I want it to be for you too but the thing is if I don’t learn it first then I can’t possibly teach you. I’m not naïve, not anymore. I used to be but now everything I do is for the healing of my soul. Everything I say is with reason, angle, a quiet submisssion to the reality of how life really is. If you learn to dance with me you’ll understand.”

Its been while dear friend. I apologize for my long absence. It is not because i have had nothing to write about but i have been unable to put into words all that has been happening.

On the 30th of June i left Seattle for Florida. This has been one lovely week.

Wow, where do I begin? I had an awesome week. It was truly beautiful. Universal studios, downtown disney, waffle house, meeting up with Khulani and his family. Meeting his wife Sandra for the first time and their two boys, Jabu and Nkosi.

Truly, God has opened up the floodgates is is flooding me with blessings in all shapes and sizes.

Healthy scalp…

Posted: June 25, 2012 in Naturally Me

Don’t Slather the Oil onto the Scalp

For generations and generations, we have been told that you have to keep your hair oiled. When you allow the oil based products to build up on your scalp, it will lead to more problems not to the perfect scalp.

Your scalp actually produces its own oil. If you are constantly getting flakes within your scalp, your scalp will produce less of its natural oil. This will cause the scalp to get a bit off balance and you do not want to apply more oil to even it out.

To moisturize the scalp and to get rid of products, simply wash and condition.

Use the Right Products and Rinse

Proper use of products and rinsing is a critical part of getting your scalp in a better condition. You want to avoid shampoos that consist of sulfate and ammonium. You want to wash your hair around once or twice a month.

When using conditioning products, you should rinse your hair thoroughly. Dandruff can develop when conditioner is left in the hair.

Stay Away from Extreme Heat

Blowdryers and hooded dryers give off extreme heat that could ultimately damage your scalp. You want to avoid exposing the scalp to extreme temperatures.

You are What You Eat

Healthy diet equals a great looking scalp. There is no such thing as a “Scalp Diet”, but there are a few things you can eat to improve the way you take care of your scalp. A diet consisting of fresh fruits, vegetables, nuts, whole grains and unsaturated fat will lead to a better functioning scalp.

Heat free curl methods

Flexi Rods

Create pretty spiral curls with flexi-rods. Your hair can be wet or dry for this curling method. You wrap your hair around the outside of the flexi rods. You want to make sure your ends are all the way around the rod to get perfect curls.

Curlformers

Curlformers come in several lengths and widths giving you a better range for curls. You can get a head full of ringlet curls by prepping damp hair with a setting lotion. Be sure to cover your hair at night. The styling tools are easy to take out.

Rag and Pin Curls

If you want to try an old fashioned curling method, then you have to experiment with pin curls and rag curls. For pin curls, you take small or medium sections of hair, wrap them in a circular pattern, press to your head, and pin in place. For rag curls, place a rag about twelve inches long at the end of a sectioned piece of hair, roll it up, and tie the ends of the rag in place.

Rollers

The best rollers for black hair are satin covered sponge or foam type rollers. You want to stay away from sponge ones because they suck out the natural oils in your hair and creates shredding. Roll up your hair after you have shampoo and condition it for the best results.

Bantu Knots

You can create bantu knots on damp or dry hair. When your hair is wet, your curls will be tighter and more defined. When your hair is dry, you will have fuller, looser curls.

My hair regimen

So, i have a lot of people that ask me about my hair regimen. I decided to do a write up..you can tweak it and make it your own.

When you decide to transition to natural hair, you will find that building a hair regimen will take time and will change often. If you are going crazy trying to figure out a natural hair routine, i am going to give you a complete rundown on what to do daily, weekly, and monthly to create a hair regimen.

Daily

Moisturize or Co-Wash
I moisturize my hair every day. The best moisturizing products contain water and oil. The other option is to co-wash. If you are a fan of co-washing, you can wash your hair every other day. If co-washing effects your scalp in a negative way than partially moisturize your hair between washes. I love the co-wash because it allows me to wash and go.

Get a Satin Cap or Silk Scarf
Wrapping up your hair daily with a satin cap or a silk scarf helps to maintain hairstyles and help to maintain moisture. Without wrapping, your hair will become dry and will not lock in moisture.
Also, wrapping your hair helps with tangling. I have found that on nights i go to sleep without wrapping my hair…it tangles up. I prefer a satin cap because i toss and turn in my sleep and a my silk scarf was never were i had tied when i went to sleep.

Weekly

Styling Tips
To avoid frizz, you shouldn’t comb your hair after you have rinsed out your conditioner. To seal in moisture, you should apply products to wet hair before you enter the shower. Of course, protective hairstyles are always a good choice for newly naturals.
This works ladies try it out.

Scalp Massages with Coconut oil
You have to take care of your scalp and massaging it with coconut oil is a great way to do that. Coconut oil helps to protect your curls from dust and dirt.
Coconut oil is a miracle worker. Along with this i use Almond oil on my scalp. It gives your hair that silky shine.

Seal Ends Weekly
If you are trying to make your hair grow, it is always important to make sure you seal your ends on a weekly basis. This will help to eliminate breakage and split ends.
If i am having a lazy week i usually just wear scarves. But without getting to elaborate i braid my own into little singles. Works wonders. Cornrows are good as well but i don’t do them often because they weaken the hairline.

*Wash Often If You Exercise Often

If you like to work out three to four times a week, then you will need to shampoo mid-week. Remember to shampoo with conditioner.

Hope this is helpful. I will be doing a follow soon with a list of the products i use and what they do.

Be blessed.
Have a great week.
